Outline of course content:

At AS Level, this specification introduces candidates to the challenges and issues of starting a business and the role of the entrepreneur, including financial planning. It then focuses on how established businesses might improve their effectiveness by making tactical decisions at a functional level:


• Unit 1: Planning and Financing a Business
• Unit 2: Managing a Business.


At A2, this specification considers strategies for larger businesses and how managers might measure the performance of the business. Finally, it considers the effects that external factors can have on businesses and how a business can plan for and manage change, including leadership style and change in business culture:


• Unit 3: Strategies for Success
• Unit 4: The Business Environment and Change.


Each term students will have an opportunity to listen to presentations from guest speakers from organisations such as Rock Recruitment, Dominoes & JP Morgan and many more in order to bring their studies to life.  In addition a team of student will be selected to enter the national Sharecentre competition; where they will have the opportunity to invest £1500 in companies registered on the London Stock Exchange with the guidance of their teachers and a stock broker.  Students will also have the opportunity to visit the Bank of England in London and Chelsea Football club.
Students will develop a range of skills especially in relation to problem solving, decision making and the use of ICT as a study tool.  They course is delivered through a variety of learning methods to bring business to life!
