Standard 6th Form requirements and Grade C or above Art GCSE

Preferred entry requirements:

A portfolio of GCSE coursework for preliminary interview

Outline of course content:

This course will provide the opportunity to build on skills from both Art and Design and Textiles Technology. Working on a variety of projects and themes, students will have the opportunity to experiment and develop skills in some or all of the topic areas below. This work forms a portfolio which is entered for assessment alongside the controlled assignment unit at AS. At A2, an individual theme is chosen for the personal investigation unit.

Fashion
Print and Dye
Constructed Textiles
Installations
Expressive Textiles
 
We hope to run at least one trip to a gallery, museum or college to support your studies.

Course structure:

Year 1 (AS):
Coursework Portfolio
Students produce a folio of work that reflects the range of topics and themes covered during the year. The two main themes covered will be ‘Patterns in Nature’ and ‘Body, Image and Culture’.

Controlled Assignment
Students select one starting point from an early release paper. 3 – 6 weeks preparation time is given with a 5 hour controlled assessment to develop their outcome.

Year 2 (A2):
Personal Investigation
Students produce one major project which has a personal significance to them. This also includes a related personal study of between 1000 – 3000 words.

 Year 2 (A2):
Controlled Assignment
Students select one starting point from an early release paper. 3 – 6 weeks preparation time is given with 15 hours of controlled assessment to develop their outcome.

Examined:
May/June Year 12
May/June Year 13

Additional Costs:
Students will be expected to provide their own materials (fabrics, sketchbooks etc)
A selection of books will be available in school for students to access
Trips will be run on a voluntary contribution basis
