Outline of course content:

This course will enable you to develop your powers of observation and analysis, as well as giving you the opportunity to experiment with techniques and materials in a personal way.  Students will work with a range of 2D and 3D materials and techniques through Year 1.  These might include painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, textiles, photography, clay, plaster etc.  As the course progresses into Year 2, students will be able to specialise in their chosen area.  This course also includes the ‘applied’ element which enables students to realise their work has a purpose and use in society.  This will be supported with a programme, introducing students to higher education or employment in one of the main fields in Art, craft or design.

All courses are supported by regular visits to museums and galleries and practising artists’ studios to enhance the understanding of the historical and current trends within this area.

We also bring in specialist Art and Design Practitioners to run workshops and have exhibitions of their work.

It is expected that you will pass the Single Award at the end of year one to progress into year two.

Course combines well with:  English, History, Design and Technology, Media Studies, Music, Languages, Psychology and Sociology, Geography, Sciences for students who wish to pursue Architecture/Environmental design, Product Design or Landscape Architecture, or work in the conservation of artefacts.
